Karika 51: Accomplishment: eight; the three restraints

The words

Translation

Reasoning, semantic knowledge derived from words, study [by oneself or from a guru], the elimination of the three kinds of sorrow, intellectual dialogue with right-minded individuals [the guru, his students and fellow students] and the purification of the Mind: these constitute the eight accomplishments. In previous karikas, [four creations of the Intellect are cited: false knowledge, incapacity, complacency and accomplishment]. Of these, the first three [false knowledge, incapacity and complacency] act as restraints to the fourth, which is accomplishment (siddhi).

Accomplishment: eight

The three restraints: false knowledge, incapacity and complacency hold accomplishment back.
