Karika 14: The gunas run through cause and effect alike
The words
Translation
The existence of characteristics such as ignorance (non-discrimination, etc.) [in the Manifest and the Unmanifest] is established from the three gunas (attributes of prakriti), and, from the absence of those gunas, the opposite [discrimination and the rest] is established in the soul (purush). Since the effect is imbued with the cause’s attributes, the existence of the Unmanifest (prakriti) is also proven.
