Karika 17: Five reasons the soul exists

The soul (purush) exists, since compound objects exist for the sake of another, since there must be an entity with characteristics opposite to those associated with the three gunas (attributes of prakriti), since the manifest compound objects require a substratum or controller, since there must be an experiencer of these objects, and since some people are seen to incline towards liberation.
